Bride by Command (Book 3/3)

Bride By Command (The Emperor's Brides, Book 3) Bride By Command by Linda Winstead Jones

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I actually really liked this book. I think besides the Sun Witches series, this one was one of the best. I didn't want to put it down. I am so sad that there is no other book coming out anytime soon. This one is the third series out of the 3 set's she's written. I love to come back into a world that you've been following for a few generations of characters.

The bad guy in this book is truly evil. I would say the only complaint I'd have with this book is that it's told too many times from his POV. But it's still okay.

There are always more than one set of characters in the book, and it was nice to see a return of Alix....made me want to pick up the first book again (which I still might) since their time lines coincide with each other.

Overall a very good read with the perfect amount of romance and fantasy. Also had a very good point about forgiveness which I really enjoyed. Would definitely read this series again. Think I'm going to start at the beginning with Sun Witch.

Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Well I was pleasantly surprised at how much I loved this book. If I didn't have so many other books to read right now I'd have just picked it up again and start reading.

I loved that is was told through letters. It made it more interesting getting so many perspectives. I also enjoyed the fact that it was based on history and yet didn't paint things in black and white, good and bad. Almost everyone was gray-they seemed so real and it was hard not to fall in love with their society. I also enjoyed the questions in the back that helped our club along in discussion.

Highly recommend this charming story.

Once a Rebel

Once A Rebel (Harlequin Blaze) Once A Rebel by Debbi Rawlins

My review

rating: 3 of 5 stars
I actually would have never gotten this book if it wasn't for Gena Showalter. She's got me into the Blaze Author's blog, and these girls are entertaining! So I figured if they can keep me interested in their blogs, I figure they can write a good book.

This was one of them. I actually found myself wanting to know what happens. The only reason I gave this book 3 stars instead of 4 is because it was too short. I don't like when books have to rush through the relationship of the characters.

Otherwise it was very entertaining. I love the time travel element of it. It also took place in Deadwood so that interested me too.

Awaken Me Darkly

Awaken Me Darkly (Alien Huntress, #1) Awaken Me Darkly by Gena Showalter

My review

rating: 5 of 5 stars
This book was told in the first person. I like that, especially when you're dealing with a character who is so set in her ways, it was really interesting to feel like you were her but also be able to observe her actions as a third person. The character was interesting to me on the simple fact that she shared my friends name: Mia. Yet she is nothing like my friend...or at least I didn't see a connection. This story takes place in the future, when humans and aliens both share earth. Mia is a huntress who hates aliens after they killed her brothers. She has such a black and white personality in the beginning that I enjoyed observing her character develop and learn that things really aren't all black and white - there are gray areas and it's not always shoot first and question later. I loved the spunk and determination of this character and I only hope that if I were in her situation, I'd be able to kick some alien ass my self.

Personally, I normally shy away from stories about aliens, but this one was definitely told in a way that didn't bother me at all. One thing, the title of this book really makes it seem like it's darker than it actually is.
