The Vampire's Bride

The Vampire's Bride The Vampire's Bride by Gena Showalter

My review

rating: 5 of 5 stars
Honestly, my review on this book is completely colored. I adore Gena's stories so the chance of me NOT liking one of her books is slim to none. My least favorite part of the book was the cover! I loved Heart of the Dragon cause it was like a "scene" from the book so it made it more interesting since it tied in. Layel didn't look anything like my mind painted him.

(Warning: Possible Spoilers.)

Even so, this is about the "evil" Vampire king Layel. He had a really tortured messed up past with his first wife so it messed with him bad enough that it really turned him evil. He's not though, he just is broken inside. In comes Delilah (an Amazon) who challenges him and helps him heal.

Most of the book takes place in a competition, a, "Survivor" of the Creatures show for the God's. I'll admit, Survivor is not one of those show's I'm interested in, so at first I was kind of annoyed. But the book didn't dwell on the competition as much as it did the interaction with the characters. I guess that could be how the TV show goes, but I really didn't feel like it was a "show." So in the end I was happy about the competition.

I liked reading about the change in Layel as his arc develops in the book. You actually start out not liking him too much (after all, he's a bad guy) but by the middle of the book I was diggin him more and more.

There is also another story inside the book - one with Shivawn (a nymph) and Alyssa (a Vampire/Demon)that I enjoyed just as much as the main characters. She also continues the story with two other characters: Nola and Zane in: The Amazon's Curse. It used to be a free download but that promotion ended.

Anyway, if you like dark romance, this is the book for you! Plenty of violence and raw love. :)
